PDC Teacher Training course

Week long PDC teacher training course, taught by Rosemary Morrow

This week was an incredible learning experience with an incredibly knowledgeable and motivating teacher, Rosemary Morrow. Not only did it provide a structure for how to teach the 72hr PDC curriculum, but also gave a great insight into a wide range of both teaching and learning styles, working in groups and general techniques to keep students interested and engaged.

As the class was working through the most effective way to make sure that their future students are able to learn the information within the PDC curriculum there was confusion about the best way to do this. Rosemary asked if three students would form a group to figure out the best structure for ensuring that PDC students gain the understanding of general Permaculture concepts which are then followed with more detailed information for each unit of the course.

Two other students and I then had a discussion during one of the breaks in class to work this out. The following structure was devised and we tested it using each unit as an example.

Method for imparting core knowledge to create effective students.

  • Must do: Permi' Imperatives. Core principles.
  • Skills/Knowledge:  Info needed to inform and create effective strategy
  • Strategy: The plan of what, when, where.
  • Techniques: Method of action.
  • Evaluation:  Monitor-Evaluate-Replan

The greatest revelation for myself during the course was to become aware of the range teaching methods to suit the variety of ways that students learn and to also become aware of myself as someone who has a preference for certain types of lessons.

Now I just need some willing students to experiment on and I'll be on my way to helping make some positive change to the world.
