In the beginning...

I just went into contract on a home with almost 1/2 North-facing cleared acre and can't wait to start my education through practice.  The neighbors are in for a surprise.  I bought Bill Mollison's book a couple months ago and have read most of it, but will probably take the online course, as the book can be a bit dry reading.  Any advice you guys have would be appreciated.

Lorenzo Costa : Hi if you're speaking of Geoff Lawtons online course, well go for it next year its life changing for sure. I've just finished it this june and it was great. really worth it! Mollisons bok can be read by itself but I did the same thing tried reading it by meself and found difficult. Geoff follows through it during the course and if you keep pace its awesome and so understandable. good luck for everything!!

Corey Schmidt : congratulations! i just took the geoff lawton online course also and i feel if you are already buying a property, the extra $1000 for education is WELL worth it as it can easily save you many $thousands in wasted efforts or missed opportunities. i'm not aware of any secret info in the course but Geoff's approach really makes it all click together into a cohesive whole. the emphasis on water harvesting earthworks was also extremely helpful, in my opinion. i was never too clear on swales, contour lines and things like that before, but now i really get the importance and feel confident i could implement these things on a small scale with a shovel or on a larger scale directing earthmoving equipment. in any case good luck and best wishes!

also about north facing-- one good point is it can help keep your trees from coming out of dormancy too soon and getting bit by a late frost.
