Join our BOOKS WORLDWIDE event!   

Share books with friends to raise money for our cause. Sell some of the books on your shelves that you no longer need, and buy some great new ones to replace them.  It’s a total win-win proposition!

This is a great opportunity to support CAMAAY, in any number of fun and easy ways.  You can:

• Host a book exchange party
• Donate books 
• Buy selected books from us online
• Receive a CAMAAY-logo book tote when you contribute $50 or more

Host a book exchange party:  

Next time you invite friends or family over for dinner or snacks, ask everyone to bring a few books to donate.  Set aside a table or dresser where everyone’s books (including ones you’re donating yourself) can be displayed, and a jar for cash.  You can set up your computer opened to this page,so your guests can read more about CAMAAY’s new project, and you can print out bookmarks to encourage them to spread the word.  Then ask everyone to select at least one book to take home with them and to leave as much money as they think it’s worth in the jar.  Use the “donate” button at left to contribute the money you raise.  

After the party:

• post a report about your event on our Facebook page and tweet @CameroonYouth #BooksWorldwide 
• donate the books you have left to help us raise even more money
• if you raise at least $50, email us to receive a free book tote

Donate books:  

Whether you’ve hosted a party or just culled your own bookshelves, use a barcode scanner on your phone or tablet to make a list of books you have to donate and email it to us. We’ll get back to you about where to send them:

• we will check with online sellers who will pay shipping for the books they want and pay you (or us) via PayPal;
• if you have something special and would be willing to package and send books individually (postage reimbursed) we may be able to sell them in our eBay store or another online site in your country;
• if you’re willing to pay postage, we’ll check with other party hosts to see if they’d like to include your books in their event;
• all books suitable for school children can be mailed (at your expense) directly to us in Cameroon;
• any books not needed elsewhere can be shipped at your expsense to Books for Africa, or donated to a local charity.

Buy books online:  If you’re located in the United States, visit our eBay store, where we will be selling some of the nicest books donated. If you find at least $50 worth of books to buy, we’ll send you our book tote too.  

Receive a CAMAAY-logo 100% cotton book bag to tote your books (or your groceries) when you donate $50 or more, or buy $50 worth of a books online:  Is this snazzy or what?  Not to mention way more eco-friendly than plastic. Outside of the US, you will need to pay shipping shipping costs, which will run $5 – $10;  we’ll quote you the exact cost when we receive your donation.  

To scan books using your phone:

• download a barcode scanning app* for Apple, Android, or Windows, if you don’t have one already installed
• locate the barcode on the back of each book and scan it
• the app will display the identifying ISBN along with the book’s title and author
• When done scanning, use our book donation form or email your list to us at [email protected] 

* We’re familiar with the Android app called simply Barcode Scanner.  It’s easy to use, and when you’re done, it will show you a list of what you’ve scanned under “history,” and by selecting “share,” you can email directly from there.  But any scanner that will read barcodes and not just QR codes should work fine.
