Project Summary

Agricultural Land League has 3 main aims 1 Stop the old selling their homes because they can’t commute to buy food 2 Re-establish local food back in the community with farmers markets and a mobile shop. 3. Provide free housing for couples who want to farm with permaculture practices. Located in Swedish Lapland in the poorest municipality asele

Project Description

Agricultural Land League is a project set within Asele the poorest municipality in Sweden, although almost twice the size of Luxembourg, political centralisation has left this demographic haemorrhaging area of Swedish Lapland without an ambulance service and no public transport, that coupled with decades of declining food outlets in the Municipality and eradication of local farmers the ability to eat has become an issue of motorized ability. For those in the ageing community, no longer able to drive means possibly selling the family home to move to residential accommodation. The A.L.L. takes a holistic approach and plans to develop a community based food supply system from land to hand grown from Heirloom seeds and sold via farmers markets introduced within the dying villages and distributed to more isolated places with the mobile grocer van concept, any excess produce will be given away in a “food for free” initiative. The real key to regenerating the rural community is having self-sustaining communities. therefore it’s essential to bring an influx of Young farmers, therefore A.L.L intend to create rent free housing for couples that understand the ideas and practices behind modern permaculture and are enthusiastic about working with the land, at present we are an embryonic organisation and we can only offer two couples this opportunity, obviously we intend to develop more opportunities as we roll out more working models within the community.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
