About Jan Zijlstra

During my time living, working and traveling through Europe, Asia, Central and South America and trough meeting many wise people from all cultures and backgrounds, I have realized that we have to live a more sustainable way of life. I also became aware that permaculture is a wonderful way to give shape to that. So I was very happy to be able to follow a Permaculture Design Course given by Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton in Istanbul in 2010.

Since then I have followed several Permaculture and Natural building workshops, courses and events.

At present I am involved in creating a sustainable community in Macedonia, I give hands-on Permaculture workshops, Permaculture introduction courses and presentations. But I also give natural building workshops and environmental awareness classes.

I have set up a company for sustainable development, called Sintesa+ and co-founded a NGO called Kalen.

Sintesa+ offers more personalized advice and help to those who want to change their lifestyle and environment in a more sustainable way.

The mission of Kalen is providing platform for nurturing ideas and practices for creative expression, responsible ecological behaviour and spiritual fulfillment, towards sustainable and healthy lifestyles.

You are more than welcome to pay us a visit or, even better, to participate.

Updates

Update workshops Kalen

The workshops Kalen organised about Field observing, Sector planning, Designing the field and Water harvesting were quite a success and certainly fun to do.

Workshop Field Observation worked out great

The first workshop was held under great conditions and turned out to be not only useful but very enjoyable as well. The next workshop will follow this weekend.

Permaculture in action, Field observation

The first workshop of Kalen: Field observation. This to give every one the opportunity to gain experience in developing land from scratch.

I have seen the land.

How wonderful it is to see the land for the first time where you can put Permaculture into practice.

How to start in practice

We are a bunch of enthusiastic friends who just started an organisation and got a piece of land. Now is the question how do we start from here to turn this land into a Permaculture education centre.
