Developing my own property into a permaculture paradise

Posted by Michael Fischback almost 9 years ago

planted plums, apples, cherries, hazelnut, pecan, thornless honeylocust, persimmon, pawpaws, mulberry and smallis (hopefully) chestnuts on myproperty along with autumnberries, blackberries and strawberries .  Still just early days.

Trying to get under the trees and the garden area mulched with (free) woodchips.  Slowly making headway.

Currently have two goats, some chickens and ducks.  The goats and chickens are heading for the meat locker soon.  The ducks are reproducing and laying well.  Picking up a captured swarm of bees from a friend tomorrow.  (I've had bees before, but after a few years they left).

Will be adding two more small ponds and swales this winter or next spring, at the same time I will be digging out a root cellar on the north side of the house (while I have the backhoe rented).

It looks a little rough right now, but in two years it will be beautiful and start to be productive.

Rodney Robinson : Good show! I have planted most of what you mentioned. My support trees and bushes all died and the production trees/bushes all look the same with no new growth after three weeks of good sun and then some nice rains. My white clover ground cover popped up after only three days, but now half of it has been over taken by the old crab grass that I tilled under. Any secrets that you could share? Did you fertilize? Anyway I am not giving up just keeping on with my plans. All my best Rodney

Florie Brown : Hi Michae, I have cool temperate climate like you and growing all the above fruit trees as you, somehow I did not know one could grow pecan as well. Regarding your bees I expect you know they left because they make new Queens that needs to be removed or seperated and placed in a new hive. even then some of them leave at least you will have one colony left. My Dad was a beekeper.
