20 acres of land. 10 former pasture; 10 forested. Slowly turning the pasture into a agroforestry-permaculutre-food forest mashup. 2 acres of hazelnuts, chestnuts, apples, and walnuts planted in various places, but THIS was our first attempt at a real permaculture "structure": a swale to draw water out of a drainage ditch that runs across the property and becomes gully-like despite being heavily grassed over. The swale was constructed with our tractor, a rock-rake (Harley rake), disc, and back blade over the course of 4 weeks. We started with a 2% drop, slowly moved to a 1% as we got close to the mid-point of the hill and finished the last 1/3 of the swale with an on-contour portion. Today was our first rain since "completion" and WOW it actually worked!
