Project Summary

We have 97 acres and in Geoff Lawton's words a clean slate. No fences except for peripheral ones, one dam, an old train converted to accommodation and 4 dry creeks except for when raining. Undulating land, several tree forests a mini vegetable garden and food forest and some animals for now. Our goal is to provide a cool climate permaculture learning centre available to the public. We would like to become an educational centre that shares the journey, skills and opportunities of permaculture. Were committed to providing a better future for younger generations.

Project Description

We were fortunate enough to come across 97 acres of land at Cargo NSW. Having lived a life full of family, fostering, food gardens and adventure we have now decided to share what we know and learn more from others. We are keen to progress the development at our property so that it becomes a learning centre which is sustainable. We know from our contact with people that there is a need and want to learn more and we believe we can do it with some help. Additionally people want to put in place what they see and experience at our permaculture café garden in Orange. So providing an environment is our goal. Here we are now, after I (Fiona) completed Geoff Lawton's Permaculture Design certificate course and shared my knowledge with my husband Paul keen to move on. We are set up as a family trust and have obtained development permission from council to put in some dwellings for educational purposes and accommodation. First though we need to develop a permaculture design, learn more about straw bale house building, build dams and swales, set up composting tea units, plant out swales, set up feeding areas for animals, find appropriate composting toilet systems and so much more. 	PRI Teacher With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
	Aid Worker The individual with this badge is indicating they are, have, or would like to be involved in permaculture aid work. As such, the individual may or may not have permaculture aid worker experience. Watch their updates for evaluation.
	Consultant The individual with this badge is indicating they are, have, or would like to do paid permaculture design consultancy work. As such, the individual may or may not have permaculture consultancy experience. Watch their updates for evaluation.
	Community Project Community projects are projects that help develop sustainable community interaction and increase localised resiliency.
