New greenhouse is full of tomatoes, aubegines and peppers, cucumbers growing well in the other one. The forest garden is full of fruit, greens and flowers. Our experiment bed (polyculture experiment undertaken through the Permauclture Association, look on their website to find out more) is full of rocket and radish.
The bee coop is groing well, with 16 people actively interested, a planned top bar vist and bee hive making day, as well as 4 sites for hives, including Kippax CSA. We are bashing out our governance, with a wide range of members we have skills to cover most areas.
On the hen front - we have discovered the killer, catching our neighbours cat with one of the replacement hens in its grubby little paws. An underestimated menace for urban chicken keepers. We will keep the flock in until they are big enough to give it a good kicking and are considering getting a rooster for extra protection.
Still waiting to get confirmation from the council about using a corner of the park as a forest garden. The vandalism on the allotment gave us the opprtunity to meet local police officers who are involved in a gowing with teens project nearby. They are keen to be involved in our park project.
This months talk was by Back to Front a gardening project supporting people in high density housing to use their front (often only) gardens for food growing. Their connection with landscape architecture students at Leeds University means they have some really interesting designs for space savers - soon to be published in a manual (PDF link to follow.)

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

|
PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
