After waiting for quite a long time, things started to take shape around January/February of 2012. The lot was waiting for this almost for a year, and it finally happened.
Feeling that there was no point in having a piece of land empty, and specially since the seed of permaculture has started to root on the hearts and minds of the owners, it was just a matter of time until things started to move on the place. I cannot avoid telling how happy it makes me to see my family moved in such a way, internally and externally, by the actual world scenario, and their possibility to do something different. It's a pleasure as well to be a part of this project as the designer, taking the lead on what's being done, always with their support.
The first step was to set up de structure of a traditional Argentinian "quincho", basically it's a standard building for a house, but with the difference that it's roof it's made of packed straw. The "quincho" is where traditionally asados (barbecques) are made, and where most of the family and friends gatherings take place. In this case, the structure style was adopted to be used as a basic home and meeting place for the project.
Made from eucalyptus poles, and packed straw for the roof, covering 50sqmts, ready to continue working on the walls and the rest of the construction, that's going to be done using natural building techniques. The idea, as many things will be on the project, is to give a workshop on this important tool for transition and the creation of new communities, at the same time that the project grows and develops. This activities will be an important part of the vision, since they bring people together pursuing the same objective, and empowers each of the participants in order to start with their own projects wherever they may be.
If things go as we expect, the foundations of the construction will be started during this weekend, and if climate helps, finished during the next one. We're looking forward that it works out well, in order to settle everything for the upcoming natural building workshop that's planned to be held on April.
At the bottom of the update you can see some pictures of the place and how the structure was done. In another post i'll show the site assessment and how the design is being developed to be implemented.
It's so nice to be sharing this dream coming true!

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

Permaculture MatchmakerOne of these badges will show if you select your gender and the "I'm single, looking for a permaculture partner" option in your profile. |
|
PDCPeople who claim to have taken a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC VerifiedPeople who have entered an email address for the teacher of their PDC course, and have had their PDC status verified by that teacher. Watch their updates for evaluation. |
|
PRI PDCPeople who’ve taken a Permaculture Research Institute PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
