Back to Hayes Valley Art Works
Project: Hayes Valley Art Works
Posted by Jay Rosenberg almost 9 years ago
On Sunday, Nov 1, we toured the vacant lot at the corner of Fell and Laguna, a.k.a Parcel O for the first time. We began to collect found objects, started to clear some of the debris and envisioned spaces for a studio and gallery, a stage, a resource center, a labyrinth, benches and tables, accessible paths, outdoor classrooms, and more.
Since then, we’ve continued to clean up and activate the space and have been working on realizing a few of those ideas. If you are interested in helping out, please join us at one of our upcoming Volunteer Work Parties. We’ve posted a schedule for December on the HVNA website (www.hayesvalleysf.org) and it’s also in the calendar in this month’s issue of The Hayes Valley Voice.
The first month activating the site has been a wonderful experience. I’ve really enjoyed getting a chance to catch up with old friends and also meeting some of the new neighbors. Many people have stopped in to see what’s planned, and quite a few have expressed interest in teaching workshops, making and displaying their work, or simply wondered how they could help.
We are actively looking for volunteers and accepting donations. Please contact us if you would like to participate in preparing Parcel O.
Hayes Valley Art Works, a temporary arts incubator is forming on Parcel O (at Fell and Laguna) as a place to come together to discuss, learn, teach, share and express artistic vision for the betterment of the neighborhood. As we work to transform the space we are looking forward to your creative ideas, volunteerism, and participation.

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
