Some towns just can not be helped, a cautionary tale.

Project: Respectful Wick Beds and Vertical Garden.

Posted by Aaron Wayde Pym over 4 years ago

Choked with corruption is the statment that returns over and over again when one wishes to consider what has happened. With the horticultural grants going to a commercial operation that sells back to the community what which volunteers have worked to get done, and that project income lining the pockets of managment to fund there own high budget lifestyles. It there any wonder as to why the gardens have been distroyed?

On a visit back to the town I returned to find the wicking bed vertical gardens in a serious state of duress. The plumbing had been cut from adjoining the system parts and the plants left to dry out and perish un attended. The seats and tables that where made to compliment the gardens are gone and the wicking beds have been dug into to try and find out there internal construction. Surprise, surprise just down the road in another town the culprits have tried to emulate the project wicking bed example but to no avail. Volunteers are put to work tirelessly to maintain the half baked example with new trees and herbs having to be be put in non stop as the gardens have not there own stability.

All this and all they had to do was ask.

How much dose this cost the community? I am curious.I have seen evidence to suggest in the tens possibly hundreds of thousands.

Another example of this corruption is there own community garden that over the 5 years I have see it has progressed no further than a few plants jammed in the ground and left to struggle on there own and a bit of brick work. Again I am curious how much dose this cost when people are needing help now not planing to retire.

I did approach them about this and made offers to help but instead my project was distroyed and I turned into a villain of sorts and run out of town. I can surmise due to it threatening an otherwise well working scam.

Some towns just won't be helped. Not becouse they can't be helped and not becouse there is no help. Becouse they live lives as predators of each other and especially of those that need help the most.

Time for me to find another town, to live and grow in.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
