See the Magic of good design
Our first 2 years were spent completing Phase I of our design. We completed earth works installing access roads and creating 2 of 3 swales. With the earthworks completed we installed water systems, established food forests, pastures, and a John Jeavons Organic bio-intensive garden. We erected livestock structures and fencing and created our RV pad and yard for temporary housing while converting the old house into a modern farm cottage with sweeping wrap around porch, open floor plan, and convenient access to Zone 1. As an expert in constructed wetlands for waste water treatment my Phase II plans include a waste water reuse system for onsite treatment of all sewage and gray water.
Our food forests and perimeter plantings contained over 250 trees, vines, and bushes including pomegranate, grapes, varieties of berries, olive, cherry, apricot, peach, fig, pear, apple, mulberry, pecan, walnut, and pistachio, and and native varieties of elm, ash, hybrid willow, desert willow, mesquite, Russian olive rabbit brush, and bamboo for wind breaks, shading, and coppiced materials.
Our livestock program included meat goats, 100 organic pasture raised meat chickens , organic pastured chicken and duck egg production, and two trained livestock protection dogs. Tanner - a wonderful male ausi-border collie mix, and Bella - a phenominal great pyrenees female. This pair protected our livestock 24/7 from raccoons, skunks, and coyote and were the most amazing farmer companions.
In 2017 we hosted our semi-annual cousins campout. We had over 50 family and friend participants from accross the USA. It looked like a boy scout jamboree for over 5 days in the pasture and garden. We enjoyed gardening and livestock chores, plantings, livestock relay races and games, cowboy Dan trained us on roping and livestock management skills, and of course food, food, more food and FUN!

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

Permaculture MatchmakerOne of these badges will show if you select your gender and the "I'm single, looking for a permaculture partner" option in your profile. |
|
PDCPeople who claim to have taken a Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC VerifiedPeople who have entered an email address for the teacher of their PDC course, and have had their PDC status verified by that teacher. Watch their updates for evaluation. |
|
PRI PDCPeople who’ve taken a Permaculture Research Institute PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PDC TeacherPeople who claim to teach some version of PDC somewhere in the world. |
|
PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
