This months social evening was a talk on growing food in Leeds from John Preston of BTCV. We also had time ot talk about hte councils offer of space in 3 parks for use as forest gradens. We have requested the one most central to the main organisers - and will see what we are offered. It is exciting that after years of looking at spaces we now have them offeered with the inclusion of a budget for trees and eqipment. The meeting was well attended with lots of now familiar faces nad people coming up wiht ideas to take forward. We still need to help people to take on orgnaising and developing ideas.
The bee coop is under way with 10 people committed, 4 going on a bee keeping course and 2 local bee keepers joining as mentors. We even have someone willing to lead and organise a make a bee hive session. Most of hte people involved are new to Pulse and are getting involved in the social evenings too.
Community is building - we have been given and put up a greenhouse (at home) which is full of tomatoes, Aubegines and peppers. We are also collecting grass from 2 neighbours and we only ahve to mow one of the lawns to get it.
One the down side Tofts allotment site is experiencing vandalism, with polytunnels and greenhouses smashed and an arson attack on our shed - it's still standing - being metal, but the guttering and 2 adjacent water butts are melted, as is the glass from the windows we use for cold frames which were inside. We will be talking to community support officers about how we can engage this energy more creatively.
We also lots 3 hens in the night this month - the survivor is very lonely but healing well.

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
