About two acres with a mix of a small leaf forest, a small lake, a sloop with our house between a small field at the top and the small lake at the bottom, and a small pond next to the house. The house is small as well...
We (me, my husband and our 4 kids, the 2 cats, a lot of fish and RedBee shrimps in aquariums and 2 hamsters) start moving in here during January to March, and aim to stay here for the next decades.
During spring and summer we are attending the 72 hour Permaculture Certificate Course nearby, and using our own home as a project to work with during the course.
While I in particular have a huge urge to work in a larger scale, I realize that we will be perfectly busy for the next years building our food forest, our swales and aquaponics, our drinking water and solar electricity systems, our food storage cellars and hen houses, our year-round veggie harvest areas and our angora rabbit wool producing coops.
Our long term goal is to achieve the status of a teacher (well, two teachers) so we can get people out here to see for themselves and see if they actually start to want to know more about this, and if so, we are able to facilitate that wish and teach them all we know about it.
This area is not a deserted wasteland area, quite the opposite, but we really are eager to get our own food production systems at work here! We have so many ideas that we long to start implementing... and we'll definitely keep you updated on them all! Cheers! :)
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
