Project Summary

PERMACULTURE INCUBATOR- AN OUTDOOR CLASSROOM An example of outdoor permaculture classroom was made on the grounds of Lendava, as a part of the permaculture incubator project. A special area for consulting, enables a larger group of people, to learn about ecological self-sufficiency in a short period of time. The client Ecoculture Lendava wanted to contribute, to better managment with natural resources and increase friendlier ways of cultivating, in their local area. Visitors of the garden are acquainted with principles and advanteges of permaculture and various types of garden-beds. Vistors learn how to make a garden as functional as possible, by planting and caring for wild plants and incorporating them with animals into the garden. The goal of permaculture incubator is to contribute to better management of natural resources and expanding environmental friendly food production by following the principles of sustainable farming. It is designed in a way, that helps people realize, that you can produce amost everything on a little piece of ecological land and become- self sufficient. Garden has become a new turist attraction and a learning space.

Project Description

It is situated in a area, that is souranded by wineyards and the garden itself was a wineyard in the past. The cross section of the plot is very steep, the slope is approximatley 16 degrees.
The pattern I used in designing the garden is a grape leaf. I got this idea while I was observing existing neighbouring plots, which are all wineyards. The grape leaf, has a form, that enables the shape of a garden-bed, so you can reach every part of it with your hands. The size of the garden-bed is measured to fit the ergonomical dimensions of a human arm.
Another aspect of the grape leaf shape is the fact that it is almost a circle, that is the why I envisaged round plateaus on the slopes. This is how we prevent the meteorcial watter from drainig down the hill. The platoues were placed according to the terrain and the paths and they resemble the stems of the grapevine. The gardens in the sahpe of a grape leaf are lifted, as the high garden-beds. Because the people that live in the area are primarly winemakers, I used old vine buckets as herb pots and placed them in a form of a grape, which can be seen in the tloris. A watter element, a place for animals and a bee house were also included in the project.  The desing concept wich we made was of a much larger scale, than the one that was executed in the end, due to the fund, wich were limited.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
