Project Summary

To live sustainably and renewably with our large family of 6

Project Description

We lost everything we had built up on the mainland of Australia, we were living a consumer heavy lifestyle, we were still mindfull of our excess and throw away and recycled/grew what and where we could, but when we lost our business we decided it was now or never to realize our dream and goal to live self sufficiently and sustainably on our own property, we purchased 10 acres in the Deep south of Tasmania in Oct of 2012 and since then have been slowly making the journey towards true independance and a more permacultured lifestyle, We are a family of 6 My wife and our 4 kids make up the numbers of our clan.

The aim of our project is to live sustainably with a family as large as ours and to impart our knowledge onto others so they too can continue to grow this wonderful ideal called permaculture.  We both study via distance, the wife is studying an Advanced Diploma in western Herbal medicines and I am studying 2 Diplomas, one in Interactive gaming and mobile phone applications as well as a Diploma of Permaculture run via Distance through the Riverina Institute, I would have loved to do Geoffs online PDC but being on as little an income as we are I could not afford it.  So follow us on our journey, hopefully join us on our property for some hands on experiences and make friends for life.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
