Project Summary

Green Beat Tulum is a demonstrative, productive, experimental and educational farm located in Tulum, Mexico, built on permaculture principles.

Project Description

Located on a 4,000 m2 lot in downtown Tulum, Mexico, The Green Beat Farm produces veggies and microgreens for local restaurants, Hotels and community. We have a basket program which has more than 25 current clients. Our main crops are: Arugula, Chard, Kale, Mustards, lettuce, Okra, beet, broccoli, Moringa, radishes, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, papaya, banana, hibiscus, habanero, basil and lemongrass.  We have 2 dro composting toilets, 2 showers, a communal kitchen and 30 kitchens that lay beautiful tasty eggs.

We offer 2 PDC's a year taught by Xavier Fux and an invited guest that has been rotating which include Stephen Brooks, Itai Dolev, Maxi Ruti,  Evan Marks, Jose Roses and El Lobo Rodrigo Lañado.

We also offer workshops in the weekends and guided visits /tours in which the guest learns about the everyday life and work in a farm.

We have a volunteer program which welcomes people from all over the world. The program has a cost of $400 pesos a week (25 USD more or less). The volunteer learns about the difficulties of growing veggies in a land that is literally covered with limestone by the use of bio intensive raised beds and soil building through composting and Hugger Kultur techniques.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
