The Kansas Permaculture Institute is a project of the Sustainability Action Network, Inc. of Kansas. The KPI mission is to provide oversight in the development of permaculture course curriculum, planning of community educational events, and research and maintenance of permaculture demonstration sites.
Major 2014 PDC Course Offerings:
Kaw Permaculture in association with the Kansas Permaculture Institute will teach their 9th Permaculture Design Course, July 9 through 18, 2014. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how permaculture design principles are applied to both urban and broad acre sites. They will also witness in action a variety of sustainable methods of perennial food production, ecological landscape design, and energy efficient structures. This PDC will be hosted by SubTerra Castle a unique venue, being a poignant example of regenerative lifestyles, transforming weapons of mass destruction into implements of peace. The homestead has been transformed from a 1950s nuclear missile site to multifaceted permaculture and holistic living project.
We will also be offering our second 2014 PDC through the University of Kansas Environmental Studies Program beginning on August 28 in Lawrence, KS
For information on registration and other details for these events, please visit our website, http://www.kawpermaculture.com/education-training/, or e-mail to [email protected].
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
