Thanksgiving Fundraiser for PDC Training

Project: Hakuna Matata

Posted by Martin Korndoerfer about 12 years ago

It was decided that the Organisation wants to send Muriungi Marete, the CEO of the Hakuna Matata Project in Kenya on a PDC Training for him to be able to better direct the progress of the land restoration on-site.

Hi, I'm Adam, one of our volunteers from Hakuna Matata. I've been holding a Thanksgiving party every year in Sweden while studying there, and this year I decided to make it a charity dinner to help raise some funds for Hakuna Matata. There's truly no better way to "give thanks" (a Thanksgiving term) for everything we enjoy in the West than by helping build a sustainable future for orphans who are truly in need.
Of course, no Thanksgiving would be complete with all the traditional Thanksgiving foods -- turkey (2 of them actually!), stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie, and more! The guest list was very international so some international dishes were also thrown in the mix like Chinese dumplings and Russian cabbage pie.
All in all, about 25-30 people attended, and we were able to raise 1900 SEK, or about $275. This money was a huge help for Hakuna Matata and almost entirely paid for Julius's upcoming permaculture design course in December. So we'd like to send out a big thank you to everyone who donated from the Thanksgiving party for helping making that possible.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
