Project Type

Project Summary

The Chico Permaculture Guild seeks to engage people in cultivating a more permanent culture in Chico and the Northern Sacramento Valley. Our mission is to educate, demonstrate and practice permaculture. We aim to inspire and help individuals, families and farms achieve abundance and a lifestyle in harmony with natural systems.

Project Description

The Chico Permaculture Guild (CPG) is a Program of Earthshed Solutions. Earthshed Solutions is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in July 2015 by actively engaged CPG members. Earthshed Solutions’ mission is to teach and empower people through educational programs and projects that promote ethical decision making and responsible stewardship of Earth’s resources.

The Chico Permaculture Guild was founded in 2009 in Chico, CA. The CPG has been successful introducing Chico and surrounds to permaculture via design principles, bioregional methods, techniques and strategies.

CPG Activities:

We gather on a regular basis for educational topics and discussions, a potluck and share the surplus swap.

We’ve hosted workshops about a variety of permaculture based techniques and strategies.

We collaborate with our local community on local sustainability efforts such as the Chico Seed Lending Library (CSLL), the Environmental Coalition of Butte County and annual Seed Swaps.

We participate in ongoing outreach efforts teaching our community about the importance of and how to make Seed Balls.

We help shape the educational programs of Earthshed Solutions by garnering input and support from people who attend CPG gatherings.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
