Project Type

Rural, Residential, Commercial, Community, School Projects, Demonstration, Educational

Project Summary

Sustainability center using permaculture design.

Project Description

At Tofrastadir we do magic. We combine different skill sets to produce products and projects that the world has never seen, that is magic.

We are a sustainability center where we try to solve problems using permaculture design and methods. We aim to be a permaculture school for cold climates in 3 years. At the moment we are making educational materials that we will publish in print, internet guides and videos.

We have high goals and the Icelandic community has welcomed the fresh breeze of ideas that come from us in the short time we have been working.

The farm that we have has 8 bedrooms (10 within a month) and lots of animal/storage buildings. We can host alot of projects and have lots of support from professionals in a wide variety of professional fields.

If you have a project that needs housing and helps people to be more sustainable and producing exess then we welcome you to use our facilities.

At the moment we are working on developing feed and methods so the organic egg growers can get decent pay or simply exist in Iceland.

We have alot of pallet building projects, alot of them end their journey in Iceland.

Lots of tinkering and crafts projects beginning and hopefully we will have alot to sell through our lovely "Icelandic love" sales page.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
