We are situated in the Sierra Nevada, Spain. Located between 1300 and 1470 meter above sea level. We live completely off grid. The land has twelve hectares , which of two hectares have been fenced. There is a full grown food forest below the main house. We arrived on this farm in 2011 after a search for two years in the region from the Alpujarras. We looked for a land with a lot of water rights and a diversity of fruit trees. And it became the Semilla Besada.
Hi from the Sierra Nevada, Mediterranean Spanish high mountains. Permaculture research farm "Semilla Besada" Hola, we are Inge and Bastian, wanting a change for next generations, four years ago we bought this land. After a few years of comparing land-prices/situations.The Alpujarras offered what we where looking for.The farm "Semilla Besada" met all our needs at that time. Water-rights, fruit trees, south faced slope, 30 min drive to the nearest town, so not too remote. We are at +/- 1400 meters above sea level , looking at the Mediterranean and Morocco in clear days.Four years of restoration and observation and re-directing the farm, we finally came to a solution to maintain and restore this huge land off 12 hectares with hundreds of mature fruit trees in fact a full grown food forest. Creating an educative farm-school for practical permaculture implementation could improve the efficiency from this farm.Currently we are re-building the main house on the property. The main house is situated on a steep slope, due to a lack of water-harvesting from the roof for years, the rainwater drained the house downhill. Gabions where the best cheapest and most sustainable solution to support the house and prevent it from further erosion at the bottom. We had the mesh wire, hundreds of meters from previous owner, the local stones so we just had to experience with it.As the house moved downwards a lot of pipes and tubes where broken and adding more humidity. So the opportunity to put a new gray- /black recycling water-system was made.A new roofing with EPDM will waterproof the whole building. It is an elastic membrane so if the house would move a bit it will not be affected. Of course finished with a water-harvesting system on the flat roof. We aim to be ready for education by next year. A dining and teaching room for +/- 30 students. Also an adequate efficient kitchen for the preparation of the food produced by the farm. A passive sleeping and showering accommodation for 20 or 30 persons, that will be on an other location on the land. This 'ecodome' could be built in more or less two months. But bureaucracy in Spain can take more time, we are waiting for permissions from the "National Park" and local authorities. From the moment we get the ' OK green light ' from the authorities we can announce a first permaculture practical course.on our web-site semilla.besada.com
Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

Permaculture MatchmakerOne of these badges will show if you select your gender and the "I'm single, looking for a permaculture partner" option in your profile. |

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
