South Gippsland's rainbow valley eco-village

Project Type

Rural, Residential

Project Summary

Creating a small, self sufficient permaculture eco village in the fertile Sth Gippsland hills. Opportunity to build several small eco dwellings and help develop permaculture property.

Project Description

Hello fellow earth lovers. We are Linda and Cheri (mum and daughter) of Turtons creek in the Strezlecki ranges. When we came here 8 years ago there was just a big old shearing shed which we've done up and put a house next to it with a dam, some fruit trees and the start of permaculture gardens, but it's not quite the whole eco picture that it could be yet.

We have the OK for a couple of small dwellings to be built as long as they meet the standards for dealing with wastes and water to create our very own eco village. Own caravan or tent would be good for initial accommodation on site. There's spring water running through the property for gardens or fish farming and a creek. The rainforest and waterfalls are just a few kms up the road.

The 5 acres supports 6 sheep, 4 alpacas, a few chooks and our recent addition has been a jersey cow with twins. We are dog and cat friendly. There is so much scope for making food here. I have milked some of the sheep last year and the cheese was beautiful. The calves can be weaned from the cow anytime now.

So we are trying to find folk with a passion for a permaculture who want to build an eco-dwelling of their own and help create a more self sufficient property and rewarding lifesyle, sharing our skills, energy, food, music, crafts and time.  Eventually we may be able to be an educational resource. We look forward to hearing from you soon. :)

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
