Tanglefoot Farm

Project Summary

Tanglefoot Farm was officially started when we purchased two acres in Blanchard, OK in March, 2018. We intend to build a small home (900sf) and reclaim this land using Permaculture principles. This property had been completely unmanaged for many years, and has some issues that permaculture principles will help solve. To begin, the entire lot is sloped, dropping about 6 feet from the Southern property line to the North. The topsoil has essentially washed away, and the remaining soil is very poor quality; nutrient deficient heavy clay. Erosion is also a problem, and the creek area has been scoured and drops an additional 8 feet from the lot grade. Invasive Juniper and Greenbriar are just covering up the lot, and other there are very few climax plants. We have lots of black locust, bluestem grass, and a few redbuds. There are some older oaks, but all are in poor condition. We are in the Cross Timbers, and I'd like to restore the creek area to a viable microcosm & leave for wildlife habitat. The rest of the property will be for growing food, and raising chickens and pigs. Eventually, I'd like to use our property as a place to teach permaculture principles. We have started the work of clearing the Easter Red Cedars off the property, and are currently working with the architect. We plan to start dirt work for the house, and amending the soil in the next few weeks.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
