Urban Permaculture

Posted by Ben Boeglin about 12 years ago

What is Permaculture's potential and role in an urban context?

My aim is to explore, test and spread applications of permaculture in an urban environment, gathering best practices of what has already been done and learn from people who applied their knowledge before me.

One of the first steps will be to test various scenarii and applications on rooftops and remnant land for the growth of food, applying basic permaculture principles.

The goal is also to build communities around these projects and sensibilize people to where food comes from.

More details soon as projects kick off!

Penelope Kothe : Hey Ben, great to see you on here. I am also interested in urban permaculture in terms of schools and small balcony gardens in our cities. I am thinking vertical gardens, wicking gardens and some sort of watering system to use grey shower water.

Look forward to hearing about what you learn!

Ben Boeglin : Nice! I'll definitely put updates here and let's exchange best practices. Eventually, I want to be able to put up a website out there with practical examples of what has been done in urban contexts, specific to various climates so that we can all learn from each other. I just got another project confirmed for a small rooftop vege garden so that'll be exciting!
