Most of the plants are leafing out but some died back.
The 2 Mulberry Northrop Morus alba that were planted in 2013 as 3 foot trees look to have died back to within a few inches of the ground.
Most of the 1000+- asparagus plants that were planted this year have come up through the 2 inches of soil with many of them a foot tall. I added some leaves around them and will add compost to them as well.
Many of the 25 hazel nut trees that were recently planted have leaded out. They are on the DOUG side of the asparagus plants so they will act as a wind break.
Some of the 20+- mulberry trees that were planted above the food forest swale we added this year are leading out. They are tiny with an average of 8 inches of height. They mostly had a small tap root so I'm impressed they are alive. They are now on the drip line with the newest food forest. Most of the trees on the newest food forest swale have leafed out but not all. The gold locust are still tall stick in need of some leaves. The Siberian pea shrub was leafing out when planted and is going strong.
The sunflowers that are part of the cover crops for the newest swale are a few inches tall. It will be interesting g to see how tall they get in the windy conditions.
The bur oaks on the northern property line have finally leafed out. Some of the 30 pinion pines did not make it while others look great. I ordered 30 more than I received and now that some have died I will back fill when I get more.
The goji plants that I got from California with leaves and some berries looked to have died after the late frost and freeze but all of them have now leafed out.
None of he sea berry seeds planted last year have germinated but the bare root bushes that were planted are leafing out. Same goes for the pea shrub seeds that were planted last fall. The good rains came again this afternoon which can only help everything.
I'm wondering if keyline plowing would help or not. The soil absorbs a lot. I'd really like to get some cows to mob graze all the grass.
