We are excited to announce a new 4-month Apprenticeship in Natural Building starting on August 1, 2016. This will differ from our year-long Apprenticeship in Sustainable Living in that it will focus solely on natural building. Apprentices will learn and participate in all of the elements of building a timber frame structure from foundation, to roofing, to walls, to finish plasters. The aim of this apprenticeship is for participants to learn all of the skills needed to build their own home. There will be a mixture of lectures and hands on work. Topics and skills learned will vary and include site assessment, the use of Google Sketchup, the history behind different natural building techniques, concrete foundations, timber frame layout and mortise and tenon joinery, finish clay and lime plasters, and much more! This is an amazing opportunity to learn increasingly important life skills from our passionate and experienced team and provides an opportunity to live, learn, play, and work at our beautiful site and in our amazing rainforest community.
