At a small residential community in Hollywood, FL we are transforming part of the sandy soil into a foodscaped garden. We are planting native local and medicinal edibles that will work on the typical soil from the area. On another section we are slowly transforming the soil by solarization and then adding to it composted soil layer by laye and planting nitrogen rich fertilizing plants at will help build good soil. We'll also add roots that will pull out any toxins from the soil.
Our recycling projects have been to complete a bench with wide arm rest and table from palates. These have been completed and now we are waiting to see if any freecycle or craiglsit donation comes about for finishing paint touches. In plans are a small solar dehydrator (all from recycled goods) and two hammock poles. We've got the 5'x2"x4" wooden posts now to get buckets and donated cement so we can bury the posts and put up some hooks for a future hammock to be placed by the bench for a residential community lounge area.
