I'm studying a Rescue Horse farm. I'm working on some ideas to help
with water drainage as first priority.
So far I've seen the main barn needing gutters and a water catch
system that can be used for watering horses in dry times. I've also
noted ripping the soil on the hillside at a slight angle could help water
flow on past the arena that gets flooded. Regrading the road with the
idea to drain off water and channel down sides instead of erroding
the road would be another helpful plan to implement.
Other thoughts would be to plant foraging trees outside of fencing, that
can be cut and fed to horses to supplement feed. Also decrease some
paddocks & plant in nitrogen fixing cover crops(non-toxic to horses) to let
the extended area, that has been trampled and bare, recover.
I'm not sure how or when this project will go at this point, but I'm
excited about the possibilites!
