Our next project was the classic Herb Spiral Garden three steps from the kitchen door. Peter dug into the clay ground, laid down gravel and constructed the spiral around the outside collector for our Earth Heating system. This hid the collector and stopped curious visitors from using it as a place to sit. Now they can enjoy and perch on the edge of the Herb Garden while they nibble on chives, lavender, loveage, sage and wild stawberries. This was also completed in 2008.
Now it is time to restore some fallen bricks, no clay was used in the construction, the sprial is free standing.
The small pond at the base, was used to make Willow Water, and now the twig are quite covered in roots, it is time to plant them and start the pond again.
