Our last project in 2008 was designing and creating a pond. Our ground is clay clay clay ideal for a pond without a liner. Timber was used to reinforce a two meter deep swim area. Two regeneration areas were also incorporated. It was an incredible experience. Frogs, newts, and dragonflies soon found us. As did a muskrat and watersnake.
We have been planting and cutting the pond for over five years now. We still loose water, more than from wind and evaporation. We guess it might be burrowing creatures that decrease the integrity of the wall and allow water to seep through.
To address this issue, we dug a well and feed the pond throughout the warm days.
