Food security on your project

Project: Nong Weang Community Project

Posted by Howard Story about 8 years ago

Sustainability is important. A audit of food items coming in and going out your farm/house/project gate is important to do.  This especially includes food.  So do a food audit.  Here we run courses, host volunteers and demonstrate permaculture.  Kitchen Garden, Food Forest (mango, papaya, bannas, sweet potatoe, mangostein, mulberry, leceane, moringa, tomatoes, chillie pepers, eggplant, coconuts) and our other main staples (rice, fish, chicken and eggs). These items give us 83% food secure rating. The 17% remaining we are working on (coffee ((trees planted)), tea, sugar, Apple Cider Vinegar, Braggs, cookies, crackers, cheese, cooking oil, salt, pepper, various nuts, raisins, prunes, milk) .

Howard Story
Howard Story : Designing abundance requires you measure your before, during and eventual end target. 100% is nice number but in reality unless you are out in the backwoods, homesteading (and even then), you will find you want some things, perhaps a "treat" or "must have" cooking or seasoning that you just can't grow (or) the effort is just not worth it, for the small volume and low cost vs. buying it. So what is your current "abundance" number? It would be nice to see how we are all doing here. Remember, the smaller the number the more you have to earn/work and the less your freedom......is

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

pri_teacher

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
