After several years of Co-operative Management, Organizational Development and Community Organizing experience in Austin, Texas, in the fall of 2011 I set off around the world to learn more about ecological restoration and design systems. This journey has taken me through a month in the Hawaiian Islands; a three month adventure in Australia that included an internship at Permaculture Research Institute of Australia; 7 months developing and managing a startup education center in rural central Thailand; and several months traveling and connecting communities throughout SE Asia resulting in Thailand's first Permaculture Convergence in May of 2013.
To date, I've facilitated and taught in several Permaculture Design Courses in both the US and Thailand and worked as a consultant and designer in a wide variety of climatic regions around the world. Drawing on my experience in cooperative management, I've also had the opportunity to incorporate innovative game theory into community development strategies that increase engagement and hasten progress toward goals. Touching down at the small airport I started to question my motives for coming to this island. Was I really going to find the answers to all the questions I had or was this going to be an adventure in lost time?
In October I'll be joining with several other passionate permaculturalists to participate in the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia's internship program. I'm keeping a blog to journal my adventures and share them with the world. Join the fun!
