Community knowledge sharing and teamwork in a local Organic-Permaculture garden

Project Description

Current New Activities and Plans
. Gravity Fed Drip Irrigation System including installing a new elevated water tank, rerouting water from an unused rainwater tank, roof cleaning, water filtering, etc.
. Onsite dinners and educational movies

Ongoing Activities
. Redirection and composting of unsaleable vegetables and organic waste from the sunday farmers market.
. Wormfarming
. Seasonal planting and crop rotation
. Watering and weeding
. Harvesting fresh food

Potential Future Activities
. Build an aquaponics system from discarded materials
. Install a fencing around the garden
. Make a sunroof in the garden shed
. Build a onsite seedling nursery

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
