Josh was drawn to agrarian homesteading on many levels. He considers himself a 'lifestyle farmer' and modern-day 'Yeoman homesteader'. Meaning, he views agrarian life as more than a mere job to be done or vocation to pursue but rather a holistic, family-oriented lifestyle. One where he gets to enjoy the 'full fruits' of his labor with the ones he loves. Josh has a strong desire to rediscover his all but forgotten horse logging, moonshining, forge working, 'dirt farming', bartering, faith infused, Appalachian heritage. Josh is an old soul like the Plain Folk of old Appalachia, the Yeoman farmers, who settled in the back country and uplands and were characterized by a strong, independent political spirit and economic self-reliance.
Even though the agrarian light grew dim for a couple of generations in Josh's family, it has rekindled in him. During the past several years he and his family have spent thousands of hours immersed in building their own farm and homestead for greater resilience, security, and abundance. Josh has spent countless hours developing a multi-competence of skills and know-how through hands on successes and failures; learning from others; the reading of books, articles, papers, blogs, and other related materials. Josh was certified in Permaculture Design by Geoff Lawton and the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia. He has since then provided property consulting and design work, hosted on-farm workshops and events, and has taught a variety of courses as well as given several talks including radio and podcast appearances. Josh is also developing a series of writings and a YouTube channel that will further serve as an open source platform to share information with anyone desiring practical and hands-on homesteading and farming know-how.
In order to ensure that his family's lifestyle is both financially successful and the quality of life thriving, Josh is intent on establishing a variety of 'cottage industries' (including the family's portable sawmill business) that will serve as outlets for expression and creativity, and the nourishment of Liberty.
"Essentially, I want to work as a humble, skilled earth keeper protecting, healing, and regenerating the Garden of God." -Josh
