I was raised on a 100 acre Cherry farm in Michigan. I have lived in southern California, Alaska and for the last 25 years I've been in Lake Tahoe, CA.. I am a carpenter but I have held many jobs in my life. A "Jack-of-all-trades" kind of guy. I am happily married with one child.
Since I was very young, I've questioned the way we live and why were not more in tune with nature. I admired the simple life my grandparents had and envied the "off-the-grid" lifestyle. A desire for self sufficiency led to exploration about gardening which led to permaculture, "the answer to everything" (in my opinion). For several years I planned, studied, and saved to get a property that I can start a permaculture food forest. After finishing a Permaculture Design Course at Boulder, Utah in 2012, I was ready to finally get started.
My wife and I bought a 3.65 acre property in Maple City Michigan in December 2013. We started planting our food forest in May of 2014. Our property has never been farmed so it is a blank slate for us to start with. With all the planning and studying, we were able to hit the ground running and we have been pretty successful. In the future we will be using the farm as a demonstration site and eventually as a permaculture course teaching site.
