I am originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, but have been pursuing a number of unique experiences over the past four years. After working for the Light and Leadership Initiative in a shantytown outside of Lima, Peru, I headed to Ecuador where I had my first hands-on opportunity working with food production on farms in northwestern Ecuador. After returning to the United States, I began an AmeriCorps VISTA position with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension in rural Gila County. While there, I taught gardening and nutrition to youth programs on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Gila County Master Gardener Program, and worked as the Assistant Market Manager to the Globe-Miami Farmers' Market. Upon completing my year of service, I returned to both Peru and Ecuador, where I worked on gardening and farming projects. I am currently an Oral English Teacher in a small town in China. While looking to volunteer on farms over the Spring Festival Holiday, I came across the Permaculture Design Course at Daruma Eco Farms. Taking the class was a truly remarkable and eye opening experience. I am looking forward to incorporating Permaculture into my future career aspirations.
