My name is Daniel (though I go by Dan). I hail from New York and am currently attending Oberlin College as a physics and history double major. I currently live, depending upon the time of year, in Oberlin, Ohio, Yorktown Heights, New York, or Montville, Maine. I completed a permaculture design course in 2012 and have since then assisted my family with gardens in New York since I was little and with a farm in Maine since 2011.
I have had an interest in Permaculture for roughly five years, both from intellectual and social perspectives. Permaculture has not only synthesized many of my far-flung interests together, but also done so in such a way that I can impart useful knowledge to others and affect positive social change. As I said before, my family has started a farm up in Maine where we have begun setting up a nut-based agroforest, hugelkultur, mixed fruit orchards, plant and animal-based aquaculture, amongst other projects, and this series of family projects has been where most of my time and energies have gone as a nascent permaculture designer.
However, I'm interested in taking my first steps into being a permaculture consultant as a business. As I am a full-time student, my intentions are to get experience with running this business, designing spaces and implementing those designs (preferably smaller projects for the time being), to help actualize people's visions as best as I am able, and to enjoy these learning experiences with my future clients.
