For my entire life I have loved being outdoors and part of the natural rhythms and cycles of life. In my youth I was discouraged from following that path by well meaning but misguided people. It was a path that didn't lead to monetary wealth and so I followed a path that had a better chance at wealth even though I wasn't interested in that path.

Now as I enter the later stages of my life I am tired of trying to please everyone else and I now want to do something that makes me more fulfilled even if it doesn't make me wealthy. I now realize that the monetary wealth is only an illusion and that real wealth comes from being self-sufficient rather than dependent on others.

Modern Agriculture is too dependent on machines and thus dependent on oil. It uses the brute force of technology to solve problems nature can solve for itself. I've come to understand that using technology can ease our lives, but dependence on technology makes us its slave.

I want to be free, and no one can be free when they have to rely on others to provide for their basic needs. I believe that freedom can be achieved by working with nature to provide for our needs if we only have the wisdom to work with nature and understand the mechanisms by which its bounty is provided.
