I’m new to Permaculture but fascinated by its possibilities. I’m in the process of learning to apply the principles of Permaculture to my home to build a small scale ecosystem that supports my family’s needs as well as the needs of local flora and fauna.
I’m most interested in natives but not at the expense of the entire system. I’ll make every effort to find a native that fills the function I need but if there’s a non-native that does a better job I incorporate them where needed.
My home is in a temperate climate in what’s described as the Prairie Parkland Province of the United States. Our natural vegetation is prairieland with patches of deciduous forest mixed in. I also live close to the Missouri River which creates a corridor of Riparian ecosystem in what is otherwise mostly prairie and strips of small forest. It’s quite a unique and diverse ecosystem with a wide range of wonderful natives to choose from.
