What could cause vision loss?

We’re very dependable on our eyes and half of our regular tasks are done under the guidance of our crystal clear eyes. Vision loss can occur due to various reasons. Vision loss means any reduction or the power to see decreases and you experience such as blurred vision, tunnel vision, cloudy vision and poor eyesight in the night. Vision loss can occur partial or complete and can happen suddenly or gradually. In anyways, vision loss is harmful to your health and may interfere in your daily activities making you more dependable on others. Here is an overview of vision loss.

Cataract
An age-related cataract is one of the most common causes of partial vision loss. In such eye condition, a clouding of the lens of the eye occurs, which usually is clear. Light can no longer pass through the lens and vision becomes blurry or misty. People with cataract may have difficulty while driving, crossing, judging depth or being sensitive to glare and lights. They have color dulled vision. The successful treatment for cataract is the removal of the lens of the eye and replacing with intraocular manmade eye lens.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is another critical eye condition that can lead to vision loss. Glaucoma occurs when the pressure within in the eye is so high that damages the optic nerve of the eye causing vision loss. Glaucoma cannot be treated completely; however, it can be stopped or controlled with the help of medication and proper treatment.

Diabetic retinopathy
Diabetes is a very hazardous health condition that brings lots of health problems in one’s life. Diabetes can develop many health issues such high blood pressure, tooth decay, heart disease and vision loss too. Diabetic retinopathy is an eye complication, damages the blood vessels that nourish the retina at the back of the eye. It is one of the four leading causes for vision loss in older Americans. If Diabetic retinopathy is detected early, then it can be treated.

Macular degeneration
Macular degeneration is a serious eye disease that can cause vision loss mainly in older adults. In such eye condition, it affects the macula, a small area at the center of the retina. People with macular degeneration find difficulty in distinguishing people’s faces, have sensitivity to glare and light, find difficulty in reading, driving or cannot have detailed vision.

Since affected vision can make you dependable on others, maintain eye friendly diet and go for regular check-ups to avoid further eye complications.
