I am a mechanical engineer. After college, I worked in the auto industry for seven years, calibrating and testing powertrains.
In 2014 I left my office job and interned with Tillers International in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There I learned about farming with oxen and horses, timber framing, blacksmithing, and lots of other traditional skills. For the first 3 months months of 2015, I volunteered for Tillers in Mozambique. There I helped build an animal-drawn ripper/subsoiler for conservation agriculture.
Now I am interning at Versaland, a 140 acre permaculture farm in Iowa City, Iowa. In the future I hope to gain more farming experience.
