I am a Utah native and local. I traveled around with my family as a child and found myself living in the largest city in Utah as an adult. I thought I had it all figured out by going into business with a partner and opening a photo studio in the heart of the city. Life was exciting and fast-paced, yet something was missing.
I fell in love and that was it for me.
My husband was invested in the agricultural movement. He was running a non-profit called Artists for Local Agriculture, or AFLA for short. He was an urban gardener, sometimes bordering on gorilla gardening. His heart was beating to make the city edible. We started to trade passions. He began to be interested in making videos and I got interested in gardening.
When you are heading for a collision with a movement, you have no idea until you can look back upon it. We started to hear the word permaculture. We did our own study into this fascinating, new word. Something strange began to happen. We saw a post online about a couple who we looking for another couple to eventually take over their farm. There were many discussions and we were inspired to get our Permaculture Design Certification. After receiving our Permaculture Design Certification, we knew we needed a place to grow our roots. We now have fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, and are developing relationships with local farmers to get nutrient dense food. We moved to the farm in Southern Utah, and learning everything we can about the land, the ecosystems, and the people.
I am passionate about Design. There is nothing more rewarding than working with natural patterns to intentionally shape the land. It is an art form and a work of love. I am glad to be part of this Permaculture community. I am working on a few designs, including the succession of the current farm I live on.
