Prior to farming, I taught school and counseled confused people who were addicted. In 1980 I bought a farm. I am headed toward farming full time.
I have been interested in sustainable living since moving to the farm being the first in my community to install a composting toilet, rain-harvesting, and grey-water growing beds. When I heard about permaculture, I raced to learn more by heading for Wisconsin to my first design course.
As for me personally, I am designing my 102 acre farm to produce a variety of fruits for locavores to pick. My fruits include blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, mulberries, cherries, apples, pears, peaches, plums, and strawberries The local organization that I presently support is working to develop community gardens and a showplace to demonstrate sustainable methods such as permaculture growing techniques, rainwater harvesting, and rocket stoves in an urban setting.
