I studied Soil Science and Hydrology at University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Worked for government and corporates before finding out about Permaculture by responding to an advert in a local farming magazine. I left the corporate environment to work at Rucore's Tlholego PC Learning Centre in 1993, and undertook the Fambidzinai PDC in the same year. A few years later I undertook commercial small-scale intensive organic vegetable production on borrowed land where I discovered the magic of circular beds in mandala patterns.
I have been working almost exclusively in Organic Agriculture (certification, training and consultancy) since 2000. I currently work with Afrisco, an internationally accredited organic certification body, facilitate organic training in South Africa and Namibia and undertake general consultancy, including the establishment of Participatory Guarantee Systems for small-scale farmers and farmers' markets. I also serve on IFOAM's Standards Committee.
My Permaculture work has increased over the years, working in collaboration with my good friend and colleague, Thomas Linders.
