About Sam Burnett-Ragueneau

I have passion for the appropriate - sustainable design and development of the built landscape and the re-establishment of a balanced harmonic between cultural and natural systems. I am dedicated to working towards these ideals of vibrant and sustainable human development, which help to bridge culture and nature.

My background really begins with the time I spent as a child and young adult immersed in the rolling forests and grasslands of the Mississippi River valley of South Eastern Minnesota where I was raised. I was enchanted in my explorations of the natural world and developed a very strong appreciation and love for nature during this time of my life. The experiences and passion I developed for the natural world lead me to undertake the study Conservation, which I did at the Institute for Conservation Studies at the College of Santa Fe in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Following my graduation from this program in 2005 I attended the Earth Based Vocations program over the spring and summer months of 2005 at EcoVersity, also in Santa Fe. It was in this program that I received my Permaculture Design Certificate and was exposed to other aspects of regenerative design and development including alternative energy, natural building and holistic land management. After receiving my PDC I was incredibly excited by the entire Permaculture movement as it fit so well my desire to work towards re-creating a balanced harmonic between humans and nature. Looking for a way to make Permaculture a design career I decided to return to school for Landscape Architecture. So in the fall of 2006 I began my studies at the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning in Landscape Architecture and Natural Resource Planning earning my MLA in 2009.

Since graduating from my MLA program in 2009 I have been working as a ecological designer in the Permaculture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering and Design/Build Industries. I am particularly interested in habitat and watershed restoration, erosion control and restoration, passive and active water harvesting conservation, native landscapes and edible landscapes. I currently work as a project manager, co-designer and drafter at San Isidro Permaculture in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
