I am a Grass Farmer wanting to be a Food Forest Farmer. I quit my 23 year California banking career to move to Toledo in 1997 with my new husband, John Hinkley. John discovered the Stockman Grass Farmer and began strip grazing cattle and building chicken tractors. He milked and bottle fed calves with extra for butcher pigs or just put the calves on the cow. In 2005 we got our first Tamworths, but Tamworths were so hard to get it was late 2006 before we had our first litter. In 2008 John passed on. I've continued farming, primarily by myself, with limited wwoofers/farm help. I live on 9 acres and another 60 have been leased for 12 years. I have 20-25 head of JerseyxRedAngus cattle, 10-20 Tamworths, yard chickens/turkeys, and two horses. I struggle with water management. I want to redesign my farm/paddocks so I can grow more animal fodder while requiring less time as I ease into semi-retired farmer role. I am not organic but trending...
