Bruce Horowitz is a certified Permaculture Teacher and “Organic Gardener and Composter Educator.” He holds a Masters Degree (2004) in the Culture, Ecology and Sustainable Community Program from New College of California. Bruce has been a co-founder of the following organizations: the “Bio-fuels Research Coop,” “North Bay Art and Revolution”, (a political theater troupe in Sonoma County, California), and the Spirit Flow Dance Collective in Bellingham, Washington, and has been on the organizing council of many summer festivals. Bruce has worked on permaculture designs, taught at and organized Permaculture Design Courses in Canada, Ecuador, Mexico and Canada. This summer I got to organize and teach a course with Starhawk at OUR Ecovillage!!!
He is the owner and Executive Chef of the Sun Kitchen, a natural food catering company. Renowned as a culinary artist and instructor, workshop facilitator, speaker, restaurant consultant and food activist, Bruce has been a featured presenter at festivals, conferences and courses around the world. He has also taught as a natural foods instructor at venues such as The Oregon Culinary Institute, PCC Cooks, and The Community Food Coop. Through his organization, RIPE (The Raw Institute of Permaculture Education), Bruce has fused his love of culinary creation and edible landscaping. RIPE offers retreats and classes where chefs are trained in organic gardening, composting and permaculture.
Bruce is the author of The Sun Kitchen Un-Cookbook and The Raw Revolution: Saving the Planet One Bite at a Time.
He works with individuals and organizations to create sustainable life transformations and business ventures. Bruce has many satisfied clients for whom he has worked on business plans, designed menus, kitchens and retreate centers, helped improve their diets and lifestyles, developed beyond organic products, and created edible landscapes and permaculture designs.
