I've spent the last few years abroad wwoofing at permaculture sites, eco-villages, intentional communities, off grid homesteads, squatter villages, reforestation projects and commercial small farms. I'm hoping to either start or become involved with a permaculture project in Canada or the United States soon.
Three years ago I began wwoofing out of a desire to learn some of the skills of the 'pre-industrial man' and wanting to feel more capable as we enter this new era of energy peaks, climate instability and economic nonrecovery. Along the way chasing whispers of 'permaculture' from some vague hippy notion to finally getting my hands of some great books like Mollisons Designers Manual and Holmgrens' Principles and Pathways beyond Sustainability and visiting and volunteering at many demonstrations sites and doing a few designs of my own, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the concepts and techniques. I'd like to do a Permaculture Design Course sometime in the next year.
